Making and Viewing DNA Requests
Make a New DNA Request
DNA Sample submission forms can be requested on MyHerd. Remember, the animal must be recorded with the AHA as registered or unregistered before a DNA sample submission form can be requested. Follow the steps below to request a DNA sample submission form.
1. "Request DNA Test" can be found under the "Actions" tab.
2. The "DNA Test Requests - Owned Animals" screen will open with a list of all of your owned animals.
a. Select the animal or animals you want to request a DNA test on, by clicking in the box to the left of the animal's registration number and then clicking "Select Animals."
- Note: Do not click on the animal's registration number. This will open up the Animal Inquiry screen as a new tab.
b. Use the "Search" function to easily find animals. You can search by the animals registration number, herd ID, or any part of their name.
c. Or Filter your list of animals down to the list you need. You can filter by the sex, test, or animal status.
d. To view any previous requests made on the animal, click the blue arrow to the left of the animal's registration number and any previous requests will open up below.
e. The "Request Status" column will tell you the status of that particular test.
- Sent: This means the DNA test has been requested by the breeder and the submission form has been sent out, but no sample has been received at the lab yet.
- Acknowledged: This means the DNA sample has been received at the lab and is being processed.
- Tested: This means the test is complete and there are results available.
- When finished looking at the previous requests, you can click the blue arrow again to hide those requests or leave it showing.
3. Once you are happy with the animal or animals you have selected, click "Next."
- Note: If you need to remove an animal from your selected animals list, select that animal or animals by clicking in the box to the left of the animal's registration number and then clicking
"Remove Animals."
4. The "Defaults" page will open up.
a. Click the drop down arrow to select a "Test Reason."
- Note: You might have several reasons for requesting a DNA test. It is important to indicate the primary reason.
Genomic Profile - Need a profile for a walking herd sire, donor dam, or steer.
Parent Verification (Sire & Dam) - Need to determine the sire and dam of animal
Sire Verification - Need to verify the sire of an animal
Dam Verification - Need to verify the dam of an animal
AI Permit - Need to permit a bull for Artificial Insemination (AI) breeding purposes
Multi Sire - Need to test multiple sires for an animal to determine correct parentage.
Other Test - If the animal has already been tested with a Genomic Profile and now you are wanting to add on a Horned/Polled test.
Note: Any dam tested (that is registered) will automatically be ET permitted. So there is not an "ET Permit" option as a "Test Reason." In this case selecting "Genomic Profile" works best.
b. Next, click the drop down arrow to select a "Sample type."
Will Submit New Sample - This must be selected if the animals have never been tested before.
Use Sample on File - This Sample type can only be selected if the animal has had previous DNA testing done and has a DNA profile on hand with AHA.
c. Then click the drop down arrow to select the "Tests."
Basic Panel + GE-EPD-Test $XX.00 - Basic test that includes a profile, genetic abnormalities, parentage (if it's available), and genetically enhanced EPD's (if the member is a compliant
Whole Herd TPR breeder).
Basic Panel + GE-EPD-Test + HP-Test $XX.00 - All testing included with the Basic Panel + GE-EPD Test, as well as horned/polled testing.
HP-Test $XX.00 - This test is only available for animals that have previously been tested (must have a DNA profile on hand with AHA) and you are now wanting to add on a
horned/polled test.
- Note: If you are wanting to test against a specific sire or dam, that is not the sire or dam that is recorded for the animal or animals, you can enter one in the
Sires or Dams field. If you only want the animal or animals tested against the sire and dam that are on file for them, simply leave the "Sires" and "Dams" fields blank.
d. Once you have a "Test Reason," "Sample type," and "Tests" selected, click the "Next" button.
5. The "Requests" screen will open.
a. If there are no issues with your requests you will see a green bar along the top of the page that reads "All Verified, Please Process your request."
b. If there are any issues with your request you will see a red bar along the top of the page that will list any error or errors that need addressed.
c. To make changes to the Request Details or the Sires or Dams, click the blue pencil to open up those specific details.
d. Make any changes that you need to correct the error and be sure to click "Save" to save those changes.
e. Once you've made the changes needed, click the "Validate" button to reverify the information.
f. If the changes made fixed the errors you will see a green bar along the top of the page that reads "All Verified, Please Process your request."
- Note: If at any time on the Requests screen you want to remove an animal from the list, simply click the red X next to the "Status" column.
a box will pop up that reads "Are you sure?" Click "Yes" or "No."
g. If you are satisfied with the animals and testing options you have selected, click the "Process Now" button.
h. Once you have processed your requests you will be navigated to the DNA Test Results screen.
Note: If you requested "Parent Verification" or "AI permit" for an animal who's sire or dam has not been tested, a DNA request for that parent (Genomic Profile Test for $38.00) will automatically be generated.
6. Once you have finished making all of your DNA requests, go to the "Transactions" page and pay your total balance. Remember, the DNA sample submission forms will not be generated until the DNA
requests are paid for. Once the transactions are paid for, the DNA sample submission form or forms will be emailed over to you immediately.
